SUMMER SEWER RATE
For those residents who do significant watering of their lawn, fill swimming pools or other activities where the water is NOT being discharged into the sewer, the Village offers a summer sewer rate.
Your summer sewer rate is calculated as follows: the average of your last 6 months sewer bill PLUS 10% will be the fixed rate you will pay for May-Sept. sewer bill. All water used will be charged at the normal rate.
Sign-up FREE from 4-1-20 thru 4-30-20 this will affect your sewer bill for May – September, 2020.

There will be a $5 processing charge for any sign ups 5-1-20 thru 5-31-20.
FINAL sign up deadline is 5-31-20. No applications will be accepted after this date.
Signing up for SUMMER SEWER RATES will affect your SEWER BILL ONLY (WATER RATE DOES NOT CHANGE, YOU WILL PAY FOR ALL WATER USAGE). YOU WILL BE LOCKED INTO THIS RATE FOR 6 MONTHS.
Note: Watch for special information on your printed utility bill. We try to inform all residents of special events throughout the year including leaf pick up in late fall, Christmas tree pick up in January, fire hydrant flushing programs, and more.
SUMMER SEWER RATE SIGN UP
Village Residents can now download and sign up for summer sewer rates. Applications can be dropped off in the night deposit boxes at Village Hall. Due to Covid-19 the sign up will extend till May 10th. You may also pick up an application in the foyer of Village Hall.
No Charge for April 1 – May 10, 2020
FINAL Sign up day is May 10, 2020 -there will be no applications accepted after this date.
For the months of May – September, the Village makes available to High-Usage Residential customers a special sewer rate calculated on their previous six month average plus 10%.
PLEASE NOTE – THERE IS NO REDUCTION IN WATER CHARGES!

This program is designed to lock in the sewer portion only of charges for summer water / sewer bills. Since water used for purposes like filling pools and watering new lawns does not go into the sewer system, this allows high-usage residential customers to lock in their sewer rate for May – September at 10% above their previous six month’s average. Customers are charged for all water used.
WATER/SEWER UTILITY BILLING
Questions about your utility bill may be directed to the Water Department at (217) 245-4803. They will be able to help you establish service if you are moving into South Jacksonville, or to transfer service if you are selling your home. (All water/sewer utility service customers are required to make a $100.00 security deposit prior to establishing service.)
The Water/Sewer utility meters are read during the first week of each month, so–as an example–meters are read in early June to record May’s usage. Once all meter readings are input into the computer system, water/sewer bills are then printed and mailed on the 1st of the following month–July 1st. The bill a customer receives on July 2-3 represents May’s prior service and is due on the 15th of the month of July (shown as “Net Due Amount” on bills).
The minimum water/sewer utility bill is $50.36 per month.
Utility bills are due on the 15th of the month. If you pay after the 15th of the month, a 10% penalty is applied to the service bill (This amount is represented in the section labeled “Gross Amount” due on your utility bill).
Payments may be made in person at Village Hall, by mail, in the night deposit box or in the drop box in the Village parking lot.
Boil orders are issued when there is an interruption in water flow due to a water main break, accidental cut, or required maintenance, or at any time the water pressure drops below 20 p.s.i. Local media is notified.
Residents under a “boil order” are advised to boil water five (5) minutes prior to drinking or cooking with it. This is a precautionary measure only.
Due to required testing, a “boil order” will remain in effect a minimum of 24 hours. When clear test results come back, the “boil order” will be lifted and the media will again be notified.
FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING
The Village has a fire hydrant flushing maintenance program which operates approximately two times per year. This program not only checks each fire hydrant to make sure it is in good working condition in case of fire, but flushes out sediment from the water distribution system. We will notify residents of the flushing program time period.
DURING FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING, THERE MAY BE SOME DISCOLORATION OF THE WATER.
WATER/SEWER UTILITY PAYMENTS
Payments are made at Village Hall during normal business hours. After business hours, you may use the “night deposit box” located within the entrance to the Village Hall or the “drop box” located in the Village Hall
parking lot. Envelopes are provided for your convenience. Questions regarding your water/sewer bills or service should be directed to the water department at 217-245-4803.
